Crippled Critters Need Your Help
|
|
 |
 |
|
Our adoption fee ($125 for dogs) covers the basic medical expenses. Some of the animals in our foster program require additional medical care. Your “sponsorship” of these animals help to pay for these “Crippled Critters” and allow us to continue helping all animals in need - not just the healthy ones!
Our most sincere thanks go out to the local businesses and individuals who have so graciously donated to our Crippled Critter program. Below is a list of dogs currently in foster homes who are (or were) in need of additional medical attention:

CYNDI Cyndi came to us in mid-June. Her owner passed away around Christmas time and his house has fallen into bad repair - overgrown grass, misc. items strewn about the yard, etc. Neighbors finally called the code enforcement officers to see what could be done about the eyesore house. When the officer went out he found that the dead man's dog was still there, hiding under the porch. She was scared, HORRIBLY matted, filthy, and blind. The poor girl had survived the winter and had survived the winter and had been eating the neightbors cat food to survive. She was very grateful to be finally be rescued!

Humane Society of Morgan County volunteers made an appointment with a canine opthalmologist to see what could be done to possibly restore Cyndi's vision. Although she's not an old dog, it appears that it may be cataracts that have caused her blindness. Her left eye is a good to fair candidate for cataract removal surgery. Dr. Pentlarge feels she would likely regain pretty good vision. Surgery for cataract removal $1600.00
Unfortunately her left eye must be completely removed. Not only is the cataract much worse, but she also has severe glaucoma. Dr. Pentlarge feels there would be little hope for a significant improvement no matter how much money was spent (she stated that if it were her dog she would remove the eye). Glaucoma causes pressure in the eye and is also painful, that's why she suggested to remove it. Cost of removal $450.00.
Cyndi has a great personality, is good with other dogs and cats, loves to sit on your lap and will roll over for a belly rub when she hears people (she can't see us, but her hearing is great).
The Humane Society Of Morgan County is looking for Crippled Critter Sponsors to help defray the cost of Cyndi’s eye surgery as well as a permanent, loving home where she can live out her years in a happy, caring environment. If you’d like to help please call us at 706-343-9977.

MISS MARTI After four years of being chained to a tree Marti was rescued but has been diagnosed as heartworm positive. Now, she needs another hero to sponsor her as she begins treatment for heartworms. The cost is estimated to be about $300 to treat her. Once Marti finishes her heartworm treatment and housetraining, she'll be available for adoption to a loving, INDOOR, home.
Thank you to Georgia Military College of Madison for their fundraising efforts on Marti’s behalf. They raised over $500 for her care! Thanks also to the many people who sent in a donation to help with Marti’s extensive vet bills!

TAVA Tava is a 4-year-old Bird Dog mix. After spending over six months in a cramped kennel at Animal Control, Tava finally found her way into a foster home when the shelter decided her time was up. Unsurprisingly, Tava had a bad case of heartworms. The very laidback, sweet girl needed sponsors to cover the cost of this very expensive treatment.
Thank You to Angela O’Connell and Elise Faust of Family Chiropractors in Madison for sponsoring Tava’s heartworm treatment!

BLACKIE Blackie is an adult Black Lab mix. She and her house-mate “Lady” were abandoned at Animal Control when their elderly owner was forced to move into a nursing home. Blackie’s leg was broken when she was much younger and it has healed in an awkward position. Though she uses her leg, she will likely require occasional anti- inflammatory medication on cold and rainy days. Blackie also has heartworms and is currently undergoing treatment. We are seeking a sponsor to help pay for x-rays, pain medication and the cost of her heartworm treatment.
Thank You to House Of Ice for paying Blackie’s vet bill!

LADY Lady is an adult Golden Retreiver mix. She and her house-mate “Blackie” were abandoned at Animal Control when their elderly owner was forced to move into a nursing home. Lady’s leg was broken while at animal control and she required weekly bandage changes for four to six weeks. We also learned that Lady had lung damage from a past heartworm infestation. Lady needed a sponsor to help pay for multiple x-rays, antibiotics, cough medication and bandage changes.
Thank You to United Bank of Madison, Action Expediting, Inc. and Newell Goff for paying Lady’s extensive vet bills!

CLEO, BARNABY, BUNNIE, MAISEY Due to an incredibly dry summer, we have experienced a sudden rash of puppies sick with the Parvo virus. Thankfully all four puppies survived this often deadly virus and are now recovering in foster homes. Treatment for Parvo includes hospitalization, several days of IV fluids, expensive antibiotics and antivirals, and extended time in foster care. The vet bills for each puppy this type of condition will total several hundred dollars for each puppy.
We are seeking sponsors to help cover the cost of the treatment. Please consider making a donation to help Cleo, Barnaby, Bunnie or Maisey.
UPDATE: Our heartfelt thanks go out to Sarah, Richard and Avery Draut for their sponsorship of Barnaby.

CHELSEA Chelsea is a two-year-old double merle Border Collie. Her handicaps are the result of an irresponsible breeder. Chelasea is deaf in both ears and blind in one eye. She needed a sponsor to help pay for a special vibrating training collar and to enroll her in a training class so she could begin learning sign language.
Thank You to Kellee Greene at Mont Royal Kennels for donating training classes for Chelsea! Chelsea is now living the high-life with a Mom who is home all day and another young dog to romp and roll with in a spacious fenced back yard.

Additional Needs

 |
 |
|
We are also continually in need of donated supplies. Donations of canned dog food, dog crates, blankets/towels, leashes and collars, etc. are always appreciated and will put to very good use.
Please leave a message on the “Crippled Critters” voice mail (706-343-9977) if you are interested in making a donation of any type. We could not continue rescue all these wonderful animals without public assistance. Thanks!
